From Chaos to Calm
Disaster Relief Volunteers Bring More Than Relief
The Red Cross, Salvation Army, and the Scientology Disaster Response Team (SDRT) of Volunteer Ministers (VMs) have swept in the areas of New Orleans and Louisianna to assist in the Katrina disaster relief efforts.
The VMs have organized relief efforts at command posts to include practical help "assists" for the Katrina victims suffering the mental stress and trauma of the disaster. The Red Cross and Salvation Army are also giving aid to provide comfort, supplies, and food to the refugee victims. The Humane Society of US (HSUS), Muttshack Foundation, and other animal welfare and rescue groups have organized relief efforts for lost and homeless pets.
From what I'm reading, a majority of communities across the country are organizing relief efforts. It is said that it will take months, even so much as a year, to rebuild life in those cities to a state of normal, if that.
One VM cited an old Chinese proverb to a victim, who then became hopeful amidst the chaos: "When there is a disaster or catastrophe, two things will happen -- change and opportunity."
Control and organization are the key to survival there. This not only applies to areas of disaster, but our own areas at home and work. I just wanted to mention that as "food for thought."

Muttshack Helps Organize Relief Efforts for Lost Pets
I want to take this time to focus on all the relief efforts for the victims of Katrina -- in particular, the lost pets from the disaster.
The Muttshack Foundation has been working with pet rescue organizations to help in the rescue of lost pets resulting from the Katrina disaster. Founder Amanda St John has set up a fund to aid the pet rescuers going to the disaster locations, who have set up a temporary shelter for lost pets. You can go to the Muttshack web site to make a contribution.
